Bottle Whimsey depicting three intricately carved devils on a snake that winds through a pole with a saying from an old hymn “ Although this world with devils filled should threaten to undo us, We will not fear for God has willed his truth to triumph through us.”  One devil has an ax and hacks away at the truth, a second hangs upside down with a mirror and represents an attack on our identity, the third holds a whiskey bottle and represents temptation to fill our desires with things other than God.  All hand carved and painted then assembled inside the bottle through the neck using tiny hand carved pegs and glue. This is an unusual piece since it is assembled in an antique chemistry bottle with two additional openings which allow the sculpture to protrude out.  For more info on bottle whimseys see the book “ Genius in a Bottle”  which has an example of my work and list me as the only known woman to have made bottles. There are actually only a few contemporary artist who still keep this folk tradition alive.      Dimensions 15 1/2  height x about 10’’ wide tongue to tail.
